Without getting into a whole bit about the evils of media...and the Post specifically in 2026...I'll just say that the Post Sports section was a fixture of my youth. I have scrap books from two Redskins Super Bowl wins...and most of the content for both is from the Post. I couldn't wait for the Monday morning Post after a big Redskins win. Many of the sports journalists and personalities we see today on TV came from the Post. Kornheiser, Wilbon, Boswell, Kindred, Wise, Brennan, Aldridge, and Povich before any of them. Doesn't mean you liked them...or that they were are popular across the board...but working at the Post gave them the credibility they needed to explore other avenues. I still have copies of the Post Sports section from the day MLB announced that baseball was coming back to DC. I have a copy of the issues they published after the Bullets won the NBA title and when the Caps won the Stanley Cup. I have the re-prints from every 'Bandwagon' column that Kornheiser wrote as the 'Skins marched toward the Super Bowl XXVI in 1991. What Redskins fan DOESN'T have the Washington Post print of the John Riggins TD run in Super Bowl XVII? The Washington Post is far from the first paper to be hit hard by the new economics of print media...but it's the first that matters to me. The Post has already killed their plans to send a dozen reporters to Italy to cover the Winter Olympics...so it feels like this is really gonna happen. Your grandkids will never know what it meant to have newsprint all over their fingers after an hour reading the newspaper.
