Lets talk about EVs, and what the government should do instead of just...
...banning ICE powered automobiles.
How about setting standards for all EVs sold in America. Form a government/industry standards board to hash out the details.
For example:
- a standard charging plug for all EVs. That should be easy, since several have adopted the Tesla plug.
- the most important one would be to set standard form factors for EV batteries. If computers have common form factors, such as ATX versions, why not set several standards so 3rd parties can produce replacement battery packs. For example, set something like 40" x 20" x 8" for the standard, and 20" x 20" x 8" for the mini battery pack.
I had that idea after a Chevrolet dealer quoted something like $27K to replace a first gen Volt battery, and a BMW dealer tried to charge $75K to replace an I3's battery pack. That tells me EVs are currently "disposable" automobiles.
