Last Saturday my daughter and I had take a long drive up to Virginia.
She wanted to take her Rav 4 and I agreed but soon knew why. She wanted to play mostly Taylor Swift songs the entire way. After about and hour and half of driving she looked at me and says why don't you like Taylor Swift. I guess she could tell because I was kind of grimacing every time one of her latest song started playing. I replied just not into her music like you are I guess and she says why she is incredible and the greatest singer on the planet. I replied well as people get more mature their taste in music improves. What do you mean by that she says so I say well I used to really like a band in late 70s called Styx. They had multiple platinum albums with huge hits and sold out stadiums all over the country. As middle schooler in 1979, I was really into them. I read repeatedly all the propaganda they put in the album sleeves and one day and I was reading Rolling Stone Magazine where they interviewed lead guitarist James Young and he referenced a review of the 1978 album called Pieces of Eight. Apparently a very prominent and well known music critic said the album was essential as a parking lot full of whale vomit. At the time, I was upset by this comment. Pieces of Eight was killer album but as I got through high school then college and started listening to more and more music, like the Stones, I realized the reviewer was spot on with the whale vomit comment. I left the conversation at that and let her draw her own conclusions. My opinion, which I did not disclose is whale vomit is exactly what Taylor Swift is putting out there in the music world, song after song of stupid tripe.
