Made it back from Austin! First off - thank goodness I'm back in Florida - not sure Id ever visit Austin again - if I was ever to attended the USGP (Formula 1 or MotoGP) Id stay in San Antonio - but that is a conversation for a different day. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend both the Miami GP and the USGP at Cota this year - I have been a fan of F1 since I was young, but it was not very popular in the US and travelling overseas as a kid, if your parents don't want to go, just doesn't happen. I was able to catch a MotoGP race in Indy which was interesting, but that was it. Miami - My first F1 race - the best way I can describe this race was - it was an awesome idea, but the execution was mediocre at best. Parking was terrible since the track was built around Dolphins Stadium (i.e. where you would normally park for an event there), the track being a street circuit it was very difficulty to see anything other than what was right in front of you, it was hot, but we are used to that down here - so if you go prepare for high temps and high humidity - this didn't bother me much personally. Different areas of the track were "designed" to be for different tastes (i.e. the "marina" and the "pool area") both seemed to be done in a rush and gimmicky. On a positive note - there were bridges to crisscross the track everywhere, so while it was a large/flat venue it was easy to navigate, the food was very good, there were large tv's and scoring towers everywhere and there was PLENTY of shade to be had if you did get too hot. COTA- The premier race track in America - as a race fan this track is awesome, rolling hills, views for days, even with General Admission you have access to areas on the front straight, chicanes, back straight, etc. There is not a bad view on the entire property, really great design for races fans imo, lived up to what I have heard about the track. The place is HUGE - so wear something comfortable, get there early and put on sunscreen. There were a TON of things to do in between races/practices, carnival rides, axe throwing, food, climbing the tower, etc... things to do outside of the race seemed to go on forever, very family friendly. The music events after the end of the day were by far better than Miami, which is crazy, but the stage was set up better and had a much better sound system. Cons - Sun - sun everywhere - if you are not in the grandstand there are about 2 places on the rest of the property to find shade, lack of bridges to cross over the track, food was slightly disappointing. If you are a fan of racing and have a chance to go to a race I would suggest COTA 100x's over Miami . . . The parking was much better (since its not in the middle of the city), the track is unbelievable, the atmosphere is great, the people at the track were 10x's more friendly than south Florida, and if you are looking to party - they put on great entertainment after the days end. Even though I only live 1.5hrs from Miami - I would never attend a race there again unless someone bought me tickets and we could fly a helio in and out - its just a cluster. Lets not forget the tickets for COTA are about 1/3 to a 1/4 of the price as Miami. Hope this helps someone and please feel free to ask any questions.
