True, but it does raise an interesting debate on defining the point in time

when a new nation is truly independent. Is it when the war is over? When another nation recognizes their independence? Or when the peace treaty between the new nation and former parent nation is formally ratified? Why I think the debate is interesting is because people may have differing opinions to define that point in time. Now if we are using international law as the standard, then there may be clearly defined parameters on this topic.
