A cousin scored the highest on the USN entrance exam, and went in as an...
...enlisted nuke. After his enlistment was up, he went off to college where he finished 3rd in his class in Mechanical Engineering. He worked about a year in that field before going back to get his EE degree. I think he spent the rest of his working career with DOE.
