The Kansas Turnpike, from Kansas City to the OK state line, was built between 1954 and 1956. The KT originally ended at a T-intersection with a gravel road at the OK state line. The most famous of many crashes there involved Wyoming Governor Milward Simpson. Interstate 35 has since solved the problem. Other state turnpikes include Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio and Indiana and Florida. The oldest, the Pennsylvania Turnpike, opened in 1940.
