There is an old mill/port town about an hour north of Charleston

on U.S. 17 called Georgetown. It is getting ready to undergo a re-birth. The Paper plant just outside of town has shut down , and the Steel Plant in town on the river is being torn down. The old historic District has some great houses. Georgetown is about 20 minutes south of Pawley's Island. Check it out when you are out exploring.
