My personal over under is that within 10 to 15 years you're going to start to see long haul trucking becoming fully automated. The long, monotonous, relatively simple navigation back and forth across the continent largely by interstate. Short hop driving, local deliveries and distribution, that sort of thing where the routing is more complicated and the vicissitudes of traffic and construction and whatnot make automation more difficult will be a little further off. But not 40 or 50 years. No sir. And like everything else in the good old US of A, once it "works", and is proven to be cheaper, it will happen. And it will happen quickly. And I'm talking about professional driving as a career. Not a robot car in every driveway. Once Corporate America decides that robot drivers are the cheaper way to go, it will happen regardless of popular sentiment
