I slept in his bed at his home in DeKalb, MS. (humble brag follows)

Sen Stennis was huge in the early days space program and naval $$ appropriations during his congressional career. There's still a Stennis Space Center in MS. In the late 1980s and early 90s I belonged to an artists' association in Winston-Salem NC. At an awards ceremony for artists who'd won purchase awards from regional corporations. I was one of those artists because I had been doing acrylic painting then. At that ceremony one of the other artists was an older guy whose wife was Sen. Stennis' daughter, Margaret. Struck up a wonderful friendship with them and a few years later they returned to live in her childhood home. I visited them once and as their guest of honor they put me in their guest bedroom which had been the Senator's when he lived there and raised a family. They showed me photos taken by Navy photographers when they'd been invited to dedicate the USS Stennis, where Margaret had been designated as the one to do that. Amazing people, all of them.
