The older kid was in a fender-bender about a month ago

I was trying to explain what happened, what happens next, and that since no one was injured, it was just one of those unfortunate life accidents that can happen to anyone, and not something to be shaken up about. When I got to the part about filing a claim with insurance, that led to "what is insurance?" I tried to explain how insurance is you paying someone else a little money every month to protect yourself from the unlikely event of something bad. But if something bad does happen, then insurance pays for it instead of you. I tried to make it as kid-friendly an explanation as I could, but she still glazed over and zoned out. The insurance analogy works great for adults, but I'm not sure it works in this case.
