Following the Payne Stewart crash, the NTSB recommended a change in all
emergency procedure handbooks. It was found in that crash that when the low oxygen warning went off the crew began their emergency procedures, but the line recommending they don their oxygen masks was far down the list. While they were going through the procedures, they simply ran out of oxygen before getting to the line about donning their masks. The change recommended that mask donning be the first line in any crews emergency procedures for loss of oxygen. It will be interesting to see what the actual cause of this crash is.
