Pretty brutal death...

Shot in the stomach by a .44 revolver, he lingered in extreme pain in Richmond until the next day. "I had rather die than be whipped." He did. His wife lived until 1923, and she didn't die of old age either. She fell and hit her head on a Norfolk sidewalk. His wife was from Pittsylvania County, and he spent a lot of time at her house growing up. It's still standing, occupied, and in great shape. I've always wanted to buy it and live there.
