There is perceived limit to charging speed and battery technology

There is no Moore's Law at play here. There will be incremental improvements, but there just won't be an equivalent to range and convenience of ICE. Hybrid will be the way to go, but even then you have an expensive battery that has to be replaced. And there are also environmental concerns with the amount of pollution required to mine materials and manufacture batteries at the scale required. EVs also create their own environmental issues, just not through CO2.
