I agree. My mother's father was on a ship watching the Normandy landings
and he would never speak about the war, too many bad memories watching them die on the beach.
My father's father was in the Pacific and would tell some just brutal stories.
I had a female friend who was in school during that time. Very few men came back and many of them had alcohol problems, etc. Tough for the women to find a decent man their age. It greatly distressed her all her life.
