Betting on his team impacts decisions on how he played/managed games.

thus potentially impacting the outcome of the game. It has nothing to do with the fact that now the average person can bet on games ... even at stadiums. Who's to say that he didn't intentionally manipulate pitcher rotations to ensure he had a better chance to win or simply cover? Who's to say he didn't go for an extra base because he was desperate for a run to win a bet when the smart and safe play would be to stay on the base he was? Who's to say he didn't give players enough rest because he wanted their bat in the lineup of a game that he bet on? There are plenty of situations where even betting on his own team to win can affect how he chose to manage and/or play certain games and situations. And then he brutally denied it for 15+ years even with all of the evidence. Only choosing to finally take responsibility when HE wanted to be in the hall of fame. In baseball it is a cardinal sin for players/coaches/etc to bet on games. It is written in stone and there is/was no ambiguity about it. He earned the ban that he got.

Yep, even ran to first base when he earned a base on balls, IIRC.**
Nortazhokie 09/30/24 08:57 PM ET
Put him in the hall!**
HokieJamie 09/30/24 07:38 PM ET
Agreed. Although the WWE did put him in theirs.

Talk about a rough few days! Here's where I get controversial:
Hokie CPA 09/30/24 07:29 PM ET
There is a sports book in Cin's baseball stadium
Vienna_Hokie 09/30/24 09:28 PM ET
I wouldn't consider that controversial...seems reasonable to me.
MP4VT2004 09/30/24 08:13 PM ET
He bet on his team to WIN. BFD. The whole thing was idiotic. **

True, but the issue that arises is that he didn't bet on every game. Say
tchokie 09/30/24 09:15 PM ET
Iirc he didn’t bet on the days Mario Soto pitched **
HokieJamie 09/30/24 09:49 PM ET
So he makes that pitcher who needs a day off pitch so he can win his bet
turkeywinghokie 09/30/24 08:17 PM ET
He was punished enough. Agree with Jamie he should be HOF eligible. **
RoswellGAHokie 09/30/24 08:29 PM ET
I agree. Let him in now.**

We've lost three Reds in 2024: Don Gullett, Pat Zachry, and now Rose.
