is the determining factor - engineering versus other in today's world. I was just speculating/wondering assuming the accurate engineering risk was the same - say it had been a bit of space debris that caused the issue and the failure odds were the same - what influence would it being widely known make in the decision, versus the number of people that would have known back then. Many engineering decisions still have probability associated with them, but today every John and Jane Doe only hears about the possibility of failure - you can't win.
