Agree there is too much angst, but it is inconsistent

if you fumble forward and no one recovers it before it goes out of bounds in the field of play, the ball stays with the offense and goes back to the spot of the fumble. That could be applied to fumbles through the end zone, but I don't have an issue with there being a specific rule for when the ball goes out of the end zone, it's a rule, like all the others.
