We have a nest of Carolina wrens right outside our screened-in porch inside

a potted plant. It is about six feet from the screened-in porch door exiting to the deck. We have been watching momma wren mostly sit on the nest all day but she comes out periodically to get food. Dad sits on the wind chimes or plant stands and watches over her frequently. Since momma wren has been sitting on the nest, dad will sing many, many times during the day letting her know everything is clear. Not just the normal early morning or late day singing. Yesterday, I saw a chipmunk go below another potted plant, near the nest she is sitting in, and eat fallen flower petals. Momma wren came out of the nest flew down, bonked him from above and then went back into the nest. The chipmunk was fine. Just got the message to stay away from that portion of the deck. ** Edited by JM397 at 5/26/2026, 5:12:18 PM
