When he is on the tether in the back yard, he still will only poop if he is pretty sure no one is looking at him, which makes him kinda difficult to watch to know if he did or not. Not to mention, I know for a fact it takes him maybe 8 seconds, tops, to poop once he decides to, so you would need to watch him like a hawk or you'd miss it. I am not sure there is a human alive with the attention span to just vigilantly watch a dog until they poop when it might take 2 minutes or 14 hours for that to happen. We never leave the dog "in the house" alone. If everyone leaves the house, we put him in his crate. Despite everything else, he does know you don't poop or pee where you live and he has never had an accident in his crate. Part of the frustration is there have been countless times he has been outside, then we bring him in and within 2 minutes he has run off by himself to poop on the floor. He needed to poop, he just chose to not do it while someone was with him. Again, he managed to hold it for over 24 hours, until he finally got that 1 minute window where he could run off to be alone.
