We had a golden with a mystery infection that would not respond in the ER

Had to put her in the ER overnight. I was flying back from the UK and landed and got all the distressed messages from my wife. The vet didn't hold a lot of hope for our poor gal. She had barely moved for hours. We decided to bring her home and let her live her last hours there. The vet techs could not get her to get up to leave, but the minute she heard my wife's voice, she opened her eyes and crawled out of the cage. We spent the next few days feeding her baby food and scrambled eggs, but she pulled through. I honestly believe she had given up until she her my wife's voice. She was devoted to my wife and literally followed her everywhere. We had 4 more years with her and cherished every second of them.

That's a tough choice - every time we left a sick pet at an ER overnight
