To that point, Freakonomics did a couple podcasts on this recently

it seems some industries are being bought up by VCs and vets are one of the hot industries in recent years. Impact is many but one consequence is since many of the vets are owned by the same parent company there effectively becomes a Monopsony (labor monopoly) and therefore wages stagnate, more to do with less help, etc. Combine that all with all the COVID pets added (raises hand) and you see level of care decrease.
