I'm a nurse in a surgical unit, I've seen plenty of vascular surgeries. EVAR is less invasive than open abdominal surgery which means much less risk for bleeding or infection. There's always a risk for blood clots post op so be sure to take blood thinners exactly as directed by the surgeon. It can be fairly painful too. Usually a stinging or burning sensation at the catheter insertion site and up into the abdomen. You'll probably feel bloated and firm in the abdomen too. The nurses will do frequent checks on the area and review all the warning signs you should watch out for. My biggest advice is to take any laxatives the nurses offer you, even if you feel like you don't need them. You really do not want to have to push at all. And all the best to you and your wife.
