You're looking for small signals in an ocean of noise...

Before even addressing the precision or accuracy of the smart scale, even in your first sentence about being down 4.2 lbs, how much does your weight vary day-to-day? Even if you measure your weight the same time every day (e.g. right after you wake up and take a leak), there will be variations based on your state of hydration, what, when, and how much you ate the day before, etc. Skeletal muscle mass up 2.9 lbs in 3 days? That's measurements error/uncertainty for sure. Interesting data, and my sincere best wishes for hitting your fitness goals, but I wouldn't draw any sort of conclusions based on a few days of a change with a diet.

While in a caloie deficit you will almost inevitably also lose muscle mass.
