Speaking off Hayes...
I crossed over the Cloyd's Mountain battlefield the other day. Very small battle. However, it featured two future US Presidents...one of which is Hayes. The other was William McKinley. Hayes commanded a brigade, and McKinley commanded a regiment in Hayes' brigade.
The Union objective was the train depot at Pulaski and the New River Bridge in present-day Radford.
