My advice...
Granted, not a professional investor just a guy who has a Roth IRA where I pick stocks to invest in each year.
There's very little downside to cashing out after making a tidy profit. Yes, if you cash out in less than a year you are subject to federal income tax where as cashing out after a year you're only subject to capital gains taxes. Regardless, if you made $500 on a stock and want to re-invest it in something else because you're unsure of the long-term value of a stock then it's almost always better to sell it and reinvest when you look at the long-term gains. Just be aware that you'll have to pay that additional tax next year at tax time and it could drastically impact your tax return or cause you to owe at tax time.
When it comes to non-large cap stocks, unless you get really lucky and invest in a Nvidia or similar company before it gets big, it's always a good idea to sell if you've made a good return. Those companies tend to be more volatile and what goes up can and often will come back down. While growth over the long-term is likely in the stock market in most cases, short-term swings can happen and one bad earnings report can cause the company to lose 40-50% of its value.
You could also do what some down the thread have suggested and keep a handful of shares so you're not completely out on it but sell the rest and re-invest your profits. That's probably the best idea in this case.
