Timely. Just had my quarterly call with my financial advisor yesterday and

we were discussing the exact same topics. We’re going to adjust some things in our portfolio. Partially based on the sentiment you described with regard to “how high can this thing go,” and out of convenience/need to move some money out of equities and into “cash preservation” position. We really didn’t get the normal 10-20% correction over the last 2-yrs that you’d anticipate/usually occurs during a trend like this, so you’d think that would come at some point. The question is what drives the downturn and when? A jobs number? A hot inflation number? World events? You said it. Nobody knows. You need to stay balanced if you can and not trade/sell on emotion. It’s why we hired a financial advisor. Takes the emotion out for us and it’s been worth it. He was worth his weight in gold for navigating us through the COVID financial markets. Walked us (really my wife) off the ledge a few times. Regarding the tech crash of 2000, that’s the different to some of today’s stocks driving the run up, were the balance sheets. The stocks back in 2000 ran up, to a large extent, on pure speculation. They were generating some revenue, but they weren’t making money, and weren’t going to, by a long shot. They were sieves. Couple the tech crash with world events, as 9/11 occurred, that was just icing on the cake for investors to get out of the market. I think the companies today have stronger balance sheets. All that to say, risk, when investing, is personal. Stay safe (and balanced) out there!
