The # of ICE OEM's will drop by 50%. China wisely pivoted to EV, dominate

global export market already on a trajectory to crush legacy auto manufacturers. Tesla's model Y is the #1 selling car in the world, so its silly to say buyers don't want EVs. Buyers don't want the junk that legacy ICE OEM's are selling, but they clearly want Tesla/BYD. The US is a big time tech laggard when it comes to EV adoption and build out of charging infrastructure. The Big 3 are leveraging protectionalist US Gov policy to defend their domestic market, but they continue to lose share globally. The domestic US market can't support 3 companies of this size selling just to domestic US buyers, so they are going to merge and/or all get smaller. Germany's auto manufacturers are also in crisis, they enjoyed solid exports to China for years, but that is gone and they will struggle to compete with Chinese EVs in their home markets. Chinese companies are setting up factories in Turkey/EU to get past barriers to keep Chinese exports out. They'll do the same in Mexico, BTW. VW is reducing manufacturing already, shutting factories. Munich's auto industry will shrink considerably. Japan has been screwing around with Hybrids, which worked well for some time, but Hybrid is temporary and they are far behind China and Tesla on full EV. Honda/Mitsubishi/Nissan are merging into one company already to try to cut costs. Toyota will probably shrink as China eats their lunch moving forward. Check out the price points for full EV's rolling out of China these days. Once Battery supply chain is scaled, the cost and labor to build an EV is massively reduced compared to ICE/Hybrid, there are so many fewer parts. EVs also last much longer than ICE cars. China are going to do to legacy OEM's what Japan did to US OEM's in the 70s/80s. They are higher quality cars with really impressive tech at a much, much lower price point. Warren Buffet has been buying BYD stock for years, I'm nervous about buying stock in any Chinese company. So I think the safe investment is to short the top US/German/Japanese ICE companies.

They drove my old employer out of China, by subsidizing state competition

Simple question: what type of energy does the US have in abundance?
EDGEMAN 12/31/24 10:07 AM ET
Disagree. US invented the very solar tech that China produces

What we lack is
RTFC 12/31/24 12:45 PM ET
There is little to no natural demand for solar panels or EVs without
RoswellGAHokie 12/31/24 10:50 AM ET
That’s not a true statement. Not at all.
Fatman 12/31/24 11:31 AM ET
Please enlighten us on the percentage of solar panels made in America?
EDGEMAN 12/31/24 10:49 AM ET
China is producing the solar panels invented in the US bc we choose not to
Fatman 12/31/24 11:46 AM ET
Mandated labor cost. No judgement. Just fact.**
