We did both parks last Oct....
Zion was beautiful, but crowded. A shuttle bus takes you into the Zion (only one way in and out). The line for the shuttle mid-morning was long; maybe 45 minute wait. Getting reservations close to the park might be hard, if you don't already have them. We stayed in Hurricane which about 30 minutes away...several reasonable priced hotels. Parking inside the park fills up quickly, so most pay to park in town and take a shuttle or walk to the park entrance.
Bryce was less crowded. You drive your car along the ridge and stop at overlooks. Again, one road in and out. Less crowded and easier to get hotel reservations just out side park.
