We took a field trip to the solid waste/recycling facility in Blacksburg
A few years back. The lady said they didn't take care of the recycling there anymore... It was all packaged and shipped to China and China had gotten more picky about what they took.
In regards to plastic, only 1s and 2s were actually recycled. And if we sent a load over to China and it had anything like a plastic baggie or a Kroger bag in it, they would reject the shipment and send it back.
I am far from an environmentalist, but I have recycled since they gave us the bins. Most of my recycling is cardboard from all the feeding and other supplies we get sent from my daughter.

The best recycling is to avoid buying it in the first place.
