Now let's hope the judge was caught in the stopped traffic.
I saw this same thing a few years ago at a power plant construction. It was July, and the political science majors were on their summer protest tour. They blocked the primary construction entrance for a while, with a rather clever method I must say, until the state police figured out how to move them and arrest them. There was not a single local person in the group, and actually not a single one from the same state.
Fast forward, none were held overnight in jail, the judge gave them all suspended sentences and a fine. All of that has probably now been expunged, and the fine was probably paid by Greenpeace or some org like that. For these people, it was a badge of honor to have a civil disobedience arrest on their records. Personally, I wish they had spent some minimum time behind bars and had a permanent conviction to follow them around on their future employment applications. Kids may do these things because they're thinking with their hearts and not their brains, but at some point being intentionally stupid should come back to hurt them.
