Have you guys discussed Jason Eck as a possibility? He's done an amazing
job at Idaho and UNM. UNM is always complete trash in football (basketball has often outdrawn football, LOL) and he's somehow managed to immediately turn the Lobos around in one season. He doesn't have power school experience but I imagine a P5 program is going to snap him up ASAP. He's really creative with the offense. Not a big name compared to day, Franklin, but one of those guys who really might be awesome.

I wish I had the time to watch all kinds of games to find diamonds in the
rough like this coach that you describe. But yeah, he seems good. I really like creativity on offense.

Most fans don't...which is why fan opinions about so many things are wrong

We have our coach

He is a rising star of sorts with his success with the Lobos and he's been
mentioned with Oregon State and some other west coast jobs. We need, however, the mid-Atlantic ties to be successful. I don't think he is among our top candidates.

But, Hokies coach might be their 5th or 6th choice
Many jobs available more attractive than Hokies job

Yet you expect Franklin to come here?
My bet is Shane gets fired and that crazy arse money opens USC-E or another big money program he sees as more attractive

VT has more money than USC with the new funding.

LMAO... You think they can't up there funding? And honestly
We don't technically have it in our hands yet... But funding is just part of it... PSU had more money, resources, recruiting density and reputation... HE COULDN'T GET IT DONE... ** Edited by UberHOKIE at 11/18/2025, 12:46:11 AM

If he could get it done there he wouldn't be coming here
But I didn't say that but 18 times 💩

New funding includes tens of millions in donations
not sure I believe this is going to happen

Why? We haven’t scratched the surface of what VT AD can be.
Certainly need new leadership hired first.

And competing with SEC/B1G TV money in perpetuity is going to be a big
problem for anyone not in the P2. I don't think that's something you just figure on out fundraising every year. That being said, in the short term at least, I think that VT might be a more attractive job than some lower-half programs in the P2.

What “lower half” P2 jobs would you materially favor over VT?

No. Why would we hire a mid-west G6 guy? If VT hires a G6 coach, it
Should be someone with East Coast ties, like Chesney or Golesh.

Why hire a coach fired by a program with twice our resources?
It's like "He was a poor car salesman at one the biggest dealership on the East Coast let's hire him to rebuild our car lot now with all the new regulations he couldn't grasp at his last job" The logic in this board right now is wHOOish... Hire JMUs coach. Build in pay incentives and spend the crazy Franklin money on players. And don't give me the BS it's 2 different pots of gold. Donors are covering both

Except he isn’t a poor salesman.
He’d be like the salesman who wins regional salesman of the year every year but never national salesman of the year. And we’re the division whose poor sales could crater the company.

But he is a poor NIL salesman
That's why he was FIRED ** Edited by UberHOKIE at 11/18/2025, 12:46:53 AM

What are you talking about?
UberHOKIE UberHOKIE

I keep hearing how much we are going to spend time get him
Yet PSU STILL has more money, a bigger program and the state is much more populated with blue chips And he failed. He was fired there. The logic is hell do better with less???

lol.
He failed to win championships. He won far more games than any VT coach has in the past 13 seasons (including Frank). So I guess most people see him as a massive upgrade over what we’ve had. He will also be coaching in the ACC which currently has exactly ZERO top 10 programs — so maybe the concern about how he fared against Ohio State seems a little less concerning? He’s a great recruiter (particularly the mid Atlantic) and will have a $30M annual NIL/rev share budget to attract players. If you can’t see how this is a massive win for VT and a good situation for Franklin, I guess I’d wonder where you think he should’ve gone and who we should’ve hired.

I'm not against hiring him
It's all the sunshine expected day one. He is an improvement but we've also hire duds. Pry wasn't even a HC B4 he was hired here. Comparing him to them is a false narrative. That story is about wtf or AD was thinking. I hope he is super successful but I'm not ready to get a tattoo of his face in my arm. He really was not improving in NIL at PSU. And the had more money and resources than we do or will have. But I also asked "Frank who?" at one time Peace
