Nahhhh!!!
No. 13 South Carolina Gamecocks South Carolina has one of the most talked about players in LaNorris Sellers under center this year and with a great spotlight comes even greater expectations. Sellers, like Manning, has a slim margin of error this season and will need to make a statement early. This is their chance to do just that. Virginia Tech is a low-key trap game that could catch them by surprise. Last year, the Gamecocks struggled against Old Dominion in the season opener. This year, a loss to the Hokies looks a lot better, but still puts questions over South Carolina’s head. Virginia Tech struggled last year, but should have a more optimistic outlook for 2025. They could very well beat South Carolina in Week 1 and show they’re serious about contending in the ACC. South Carolina was on the cusp of getting into the College Football Playoff last year. They’re expected to be a team that contends again for the CFP. A loss to Virginia Tech would not help their resume. Don’t be surprised if the Hokies pull off the upset. This article was originally published on fansided.com as 4 teams ranked in AP Top 25 that should already be on upset alert in Week 1.

My advice is to relax.
South Carolina is going to beat the bearings out of us. And that’s ok. We could still win 8 games. But we definitely won’t. 5-6 wins this year. Unless we do worse. But it’s ok.

Why would they beat us by more than Clemson did last year?
We played Clemson without a healthy QB or top RB & led at half…and we’d have still led into the 4th qtr if Delane could tackle SC isn’t better than Clemson (they were nearly identical last year). That game we lost by 10 & was the only loss in regular season by more than 1 score. I don’t think they beat us by more than 8-10 IF they beat us

What part of AK??
I used to live in Eagle River. Was just up there a few years ago for a reunion and a climb. Love AK and still have a lot of brothers up there.

Pry working on situational coaching, i.e., obscure substitution rules
Maybe he can have Shane in a strait jacket early into the game. Go all Monty Python French castle heckler on him.

I hope he coaches like his father did in "big" opening games...

SIL is only black sheep now. Wife converted to Clemson after 2 of our kids
went there. We live in SC, so going to VT wasn’t affordable for them. One of my Clemson grads makes a trip to a VT game with me every year.

In SC also, 4 of our kids went to Clemson. 3 of them have gone to a game
at tech for the last few years. They love the entrance and going to the games generally. Not last year as an older lady - late 60’s - was outright nasty to them. Fortunately, most of the fans around them kept telling them to ignore her and they had every right to cheer on their team and apologized to them for the other fans behavior.

Hope so. USC managed to avoid a whipping during our 20 year run...
The maternal side of my family are all Gamecocks. I was born in Columbia. Last time we played them in 1991, they won a close one in Columbia when I was a VT student. The last of 6 contests we could never do better than tie them. Then when we were the "Beast of the East' for the next 20 years, and they were among the worst teams in the country....never once crossed paths. Now we meet again, when they're on a high, and we're on a low again. Very annoying.

I remember a lot of near misses in those days including that game and...
The many disappointments in that 2-8-1 season the following year in 1992, We'd soon realize we were a special program on the rise under Coach Beamer. Man... those were fun years and we look to be on the rise again and likely on the verge of some big things. I know Shane and his staff can't be taking us lightly and he can't buy a frame of film on our offense or defense. First games are tricky and you might just get bushwhacked. ** Edited by gobbler1955 at 8/12/2025, 7:07:41 PM
