Way harder to get into ND. 2nd most selective in the ACC after Duke
ND, BC and Georgetown are the "Catholic Ivy League"

It was during the 70's. Jimmy Sharpe offered Rudy Ruettiger a scholarship.

You have to remember ND is a relatively small private school, where...
...VT is a large public university which is growing larger every day. Sands wants to turn VT into a Big-10 size research university. ND might grow, but they aren't going to grow anywhere near the rate of VT in upcoming decades. The elite VT students will match up with the elite students at any other university, but VT will always admit a lot more students, thus be less selective, than great private schools.

yes, a lot of demand at both places
Difference ND is an exclusive Private school, wonderful academics and limited enrollment. So supply and demand. At VT its very tough too, however, with VT endorsing a growing enrollment, more folks have the opportunity to enroll at VT. VT is a state land grant with ENTIRELY different mission than Notre Dame. It's really apples and oranges. ( ND is peers more stanford, USC, BC Duke Northwestern Vanderbilt.) VT more Penn State, Ohio State Purdue, NC State A&M, all similar size and mission.

UND admissions
University of Notre Dame admissions is most selective with an acceptance rate of 19% and an early acceptance rate of 24.2%. Half the applicants admitted to University of Notre Dame have an SAT score between 1400 and 1550 or an ACT score of 32 and 35. However, one quarter of admitted applicants achieved scores above these ranges and one quarter scored below these ranges.

Very true. Met a newbie at W&M my Jr year who transferred to W&M from UVA
He asked why courses were SO much harder and so hard to get anything above 3.0 per semester. He had 3.7 at UVA

Overall, W&M is the most competitive and challenging school in Virginia
