Good call on Stanford. Not only AAU, but Olympic sports.

When you hear some of the arguments for UVA (AAU!!!! strong history in Olympic sports!!!!) --- if those things carried much weight, there would've been a feeding frenzy for Stanford. Instead, Stanford was lucky to get a lifeline from the ACC (and Notre Dame). You can say 85% of Expansion is football + media rights (where football drives the media rights). Then maybe 10% for basketball, and 5% for all the other stuff.

Not really football related but 55k student applications for 2024. WOW. **

Agreed, most 17-18 year olds don't want to write 4 extra essays.

It's more than a little, it's a lot. And as more schools start waiving

The key is % offered, not enrolled. VT offer rate = 57%, UVA = 19%, **

UVA way more exclusive..**

Just an anecdote about Uva students in Arlington

Sounds relative -- compared to rest of Virginia/USA, I'm gonna guess....
HWA 07/23/24 05:50 PM ET
Exactly. And it's why UVa isn't so attractive to the B1G.
marcbvtgm 07/22/24 02:01 PM ET
Maybe we should become more exclusive.
HokieDelNorte 07/22/24 04:39 PM ET
Why? Size and the $$ that brings will be VT's ticket to P2 (if it happens).**
marcbvtgm 07/25/24 12:14 PM ET
Football is exactly why UVa isn't so attractive to the B1G**
Pylons 07/22/24 04:13 PM ET
It’s all about $$ and UVa doesn’t bring $$. And it’s about 2045, not 2025.
marcbvtgm 07/22/24 06:11 PM ET
Those things without football people care about wouldn't really matter.
Pylons 07/22/24 06:15 PM ET
Then explain UMd and Rutgers.
marcbvtgm 07/25/24 12:13 PM ET
UMd and Rutgers are maybe best explained as "mistakes"
Pylons 07/25/24 12:53 PM ET
I think their AAU status, along with being a state university puts them...
EDGEMAN 07/22/24 02:14 PM ET
Oh good grief, the AAU argument. That and being a state U gets them zip.
marcbvtgm 07/22/24 06:16 PM ET
How many non-AAU schools have the Big Ten added?
Hokie1992 07/23/24 07:35 AM ET
the Big Ten also hasn't taken any schools with tiny alumni/fanbases.
