This caused issues. When they drafted Dwayne Haskins, he wanted #7. #7 had been last worn by Joe Theismann and hadn’t been worn by anyone since he retired after his leg injury. That was no problem for Danny Boy, who pressured Joe to allow Dwayne to wear the number. Mr. Haskins was cut in his second year for acting like an idiot, in addition to not playing well. That helped spark the number retirement spree that they have been on the past few years. Now they have like 6 numbers retired after having only 1 for 50 years (for Sammy Baugh #33). One number that was never soft-retired was #17. That was worn famously by Doug Williams in the Super Bowl. It currently is worn by "Scary" Terry McLaurin, and was worn before Doug by Billy Kilmer in the 70s who took the Skins to Super Bowl VII.
