I would absolutely expect it from Kelly, it's right in his MO

Make an absurd statement that he absolutely knows is neither legal nor possible so that he can look like he's some kind of saint. Meanwhile, his minions are off trying to poach players from other teams by offering them more money. He's a believe what I say, not what I do but you can't prove I do kind of guy. Don't think that statement is a look the other way attempt since word is out he's poaching players? No different than always whining about the academic standards at ND causing him to not be able to compete. Meanwhile, like every other school, anyone who is eligible and could help the team win, would be on the roster and the second he could make more money he ran off to one of those schools that doesn't have those academic barriers. Awwww shucks, I don't make the rules, I just find ways to use them to make $millions.

Brian Kelly lobbies for a NIL salary cap

Okay being a smartass, WHO would set the salary cap? Surely not the NCAA

GUS 04/15/24 11:59 PM ET

NIL cap would get instantly vaporized by the courts, as it stands now
Synaesthesia 04/15/24 02:47 PM ET
To have any limits on compensation, it must be collectively bargained
Vienna_Hokie 04/16/24 06:50 AM ET
Yup...which is why there's no endgame here.
vthokieq 04/15/24 07:17 PM ET
It a mess and the sooner this whole thing implodes, the better so we can
Tombo 04/15/24 10:25 PM ET
Well…the point of my post…
vthokieq 04/15/24 11:07 PM ET
I am agreeing with you but there will be an after. A whole different model
Tombo 04/15/24 11:10 PM ET
Well ...
Beerman 04/15/24 04:02 PM ET
Can't compare to the NFL at all.
vthokieq 04/15/24 07:19 PM ET
They do have legal language against this, enforced against team not players
Synaesthesia 04/15/24 04:40 PM ET
Spot on. **
Hokie_Dawg 04/15/24 03:36 PM ET
He just wants schools who follow the rules to be limited
EDGEMAN 04/15/24 02:02 PM ET
That's big of him. Same for coaches?**

I agree on the belief that
VTFan29 04/15/24 12:17 PM ET
I think an NIL cap broadly makes things more balanced
Hokie1992 04/15/24 12:26 PM ET
True. But brown bag cash would be nothing new. That was always an issue.
VTFan29 04/15/24 02:18 PM ET
A coaching salary cap that’s reasonable for all schools would keep coaching
Hoakie82 04/15/24 02:17 PM ET
If trophies for everyone means keeping college athletics competitive...
