They should’ve done what wake did to us.
When they inbounded it the last time just foul. Two foul shots is better than a uncontested 3 from their only player

Maybe so, it was a good play and coaching from Stanford…
it was over when Neo switched to Okorie on the pick- Okorie had whatever shot he wanted.

Totally different scenarios. You never foul when up 2. Never.

agreed. finished with 4-3 point shots + 2 pt plus foul and layup.

They were up 3 when they fouled...
That's exactly what you should do up 3 Fouling up 2 is just giving the game away If FT shooting were as easy as the fan base claims, they sure wouldnt advocate giving away free ones to tie the game

All I’m saying is…
You are up 2 points… if you foul then all they can do is tie it unless they get some 3 point play out of it. I would rather tie and get the ball back with some time than let them drain the clock and take the lead with a 3. Plus with only being in the bonus and not a bonus+ if they miss the first it’s even better.

Announcers, fans always call for fouling. Coaches don't
Because coaches know there is a good chance a player can get up a shot

Yikes! Stick to baseball because that’s an absurd strategy. The data on
fouling up three is mixed at best with a lean towards not fouling. Fouling when up by two isn’t a remotely viable option. It’s just objectively bad and stupid.

Not one coach in the country would do that

Or double their best player.

Yeah, no...its a bad strategy
Its easy to say when youre sitting here knowing they made a ridiculous 3 But had MY had them foul while only up 2 and they tied it he'd be the laughing stock of college basketball...and would deserve it Its a terrible idea

I get that… but we’re Virginia Tech
Don’t be worried about being a laughingstock when you are already somewhat of one. I think it’s better because even allowing it to get tied, you have much more time to go down and win. Being up by two is equivalent to tied until the buzzer sounds. Not even to mention that we had a bonus+. Go down and draw a foul and shoot your own to retake the lead

This is a weird hill to die on. No team from rec league up is fouling when
up two. Even in hindsight it makes zero sense. We let one get away. It’s frustrating but it happens all the time in every sport (and not just to VT). When you blow a big lead late and lose on a last second shot there are plenty of opportunities for second guessing. But not fouling at the end isn’t one of them.

"Go down and draw a foul"
Diagram that for us.

They were fouling like crazy
Throw a big in there and drive. Majority of the time you drive in to take a lead you will get fouled. People draw fouls all the time

This is terrible advice

Sometimes making FTs doesnt work
That doesnt mean you miss them That's the equivalent of what youre proposing

Exactly, I kept yelling…foul him, foul him. I guess we didn’t learn.
