Quite possibly the best lock down defender I’ve seen in a VT uniform and he could score a little bit too.

held All-American Barry Parkhill to 2 points until the final minutes of the game. I think BP scored a couple of baskets in garbage time. He was also a friend of a girl that I dated who had come from Ferrum at the same time. Enjoyed a couple of beers and talking to him at a frat occasionally.

Nice guy also, played against him in a pickup game at Ferrum JC
He and Bobby Stevens were starting guards at Ferrum for two years- quite a dynamic duo. RIP Charlie.

I attended in 1970-72 and then went on to VT. The athletes were all mainstreamed into the very small student population so we got to know most of them. Many were on their way to the Big Ten, ACC and other top conferences and independents.
I'll never forget the Saturday night I was in a dorm room chilling out drinking a few beers when the news spread that the Marshall team plane had gone down. Two players in the room had teammates from the previous season that were on that plane.

Charlie was smooth
he had very quick hands and his first step was fluid. He and Bobby gave the other team hell on defense and they both could penetrate with Bobby being a consistent outside shooter.
The year they moved on to VT, my second year, we had a big power forward named Wayne Robinson (if my mind is not tricking me). Wayne was also a pleasure to watch on the boards. I think that UT was looking at him but I lost track when I moved on.

his Sr. year. Wayne was a little later but was a rebounding machine. I think Wayne played on the team that lost to Larry Bird ISU in the tournament. He became a minister and gave the eulogy at Charlie Moir’s funeral. Did a wonderful job
