Agree that Italy is fantastic. You could ask for the worst restaurant…
In a town, and it will be one of the best meals you ever had. People super friendly. Scenery great, lots of history…

Unless you've eaten in France
Got a laugh from a French waitress in Marseilles. We asked her why the pizza in France was much better than the pizza in Italy, and she said, "In France, we care about taste." We busted out laughing, but she was right. The food in Italy was pretty good, but the food in France was better.

Why eat pizza in Marseilles? Go their for seafood. Home of bouillabaisse

We ate quite a few different things there.
I went back to that restaurant every time I visited Marseilles.

More taste usually means more calories.
I've never been to Paris but when I visited Rome 10 years ago, the thing that struck me was that the Italians love to eat and they eat A LOT. But there were very few overweight Italians. When I compared them with the 20+ people in my group, it was obvious who the tourists were. We were the Fat Americans. How do Italians stay in such great shape with the way they eat? ** Edited by YBYSAIAHokie at 4/17/2023, 12:43:34 PM

In short, the US food supply is poisoned with preservatives
sugar and GMOs. Europe does more to protect their citizens. Follow the Food Babe for some interesting facts on the ingredients allowed in the US and banned in other countries like the UK. The Mediterranean diet is legit (wine + olive oil instead of those nasty vegetable oils). We lose weight eating French cuisine on vacations (including lots of bread).

The French eat smaller portions, but...
...what they eat is higher in fat. Fat keeps you satiated, where you burn off carbs fairly quickly requiring you to eat more, and more, and more...

That dude is a good writer. Where'd he come from?

Dave S has been around a long time. Hokie and previously a sportswriter for
Roanoke Times (I think that's right). Always a good read and covers the human interest side extremely well, regardless of subject or topic.

Great story. Being next door to Switzerland is a bonus
It’s absolutely pristine. Northern Italy is special but we had perfect weather for Venice. The Alps and Dolomites are exceptional whether you are skiing or hiking. The ability to see the gems of Europe at a casual pace will be special. In the time it takes me to drive to Blacksburg, Grant could visit 3 different countries. It’s on our list to spend 90 days there (as long as our Visa will allow it) so we can really settle in. Maybe even move there.
