We seem to miss alot from 2 feet and in- is that just strength? im not
a basketball expert- and quite terrible at all facets of the game- but it seems like we aren't finishing as well as last year around the rim - like contested last night meant missed for the most part in the paint

It's not just one thing. There are a lot of reasons for the misses...
I'm not an expert either, but I've played and watched a lot of ball. Some of it is strength needed to rise up through contact because refs aren't going to call touch fouls around the basket to bail out a player that's taking a wild shot. The players need to attack the basket on the drive or make strong post moves in order to get the foul call on the contact. I also see a lot of plays where guys just bat the ball around on a rebound or try to tip it when they need to control it first then shoot. Many players try to get a clean shot through the net when you have a higher chance of making it by banking it off of the glass. There are also a lot of times when Pedulla goes in the middle of the bigs and has to contort his body just to get a shot off. He makes some of them, but this is not a high percentage shot. Teammates need to be moving into position to receive a pass when the defense shifts to help out on the drive and give him someone to dish it to for a layup.

Poteat is our only big who will power through arm fouls
Kidd is much better than the start of season. He is our quickest jumping guy over 6'8"...just needs another year of S&C to compete against the bigs at Wake and Clemson eg. Basile does not seem to like mixing it up at close range. Mutts is a high finesse type small forward who uses his great feet to avoid contact and find clear routes to the rim. On good nights it works and on slightly off nights lots of rim rollers. Poteat is just a bull in a china shop...like a football strong side DE. He is fearless and gets fouled more than is called. I really like his effort. Last night was first time I remember him missing two foul shots consecutively...which he made up for later.

trying too hard to avoid contact when taking a shot in the lane
lots of awkward leaning or falling away instead of going up strong leads to missed close-range shots and fewer fouls called against the defense

Clemson 21 fouls, Virginia Tech 17 last night
Let's stop blaming the refs for everything that goes wrong with the team.

We have to accept they’re not calling stuff underneath and either stop
Short of traffic and use the glass with a short jumper OR work on focusing on the square and finishing strong through contact. We’re trying these delicate touch shots often over the rim instead of higher arcing off glass shots. Mutts is getting the worst of it with contact often forcing his attempts into the side of the rim/short instead of being able to get the ball high enough on the square

other team players seem to be getting their share of
under-basket makes. i don't disagree with your analysis, but it seems we get rejected more often.

We’re not being as physical as the other team
And finishing through contact. Other teams are also missing in close when we’re physical with them on D (Poteat forced several misses close in with the contact they were allowing )
