All the coach discussions below…we all have thoughts on who’s the best but

Consider that Since 1956 there have been 4 really bad coaches. Allen, Hussey, Stokes, and Johnson. All the rest have winning percentages above 500 and several above 600. Moir had the most success in the era of the 32 team field. He won a couple of tournament games and the field wasn’t so watered down. Fewer games vs St. Louis and Liberty. In today’s expanded field he would have garnered 3-4 more big dance bids. Russell Pierre ended him. His round of 16 game losses were to Larry Bird and Bobby Knight Devoe was the best of the bunch X’s and O’s wise imo. NIT championship was a great accomplishment. Flirtation with Ohio State ended him. Bill Foster was a good coach but his age and health ended his tenure. Noe and Shannon were successful coaches and the Cassell was a NCAA tournament site in the mid 60’s. Seth Buzz and CMY have had their great moments and have great wins and crazy losses like all the rest. Moir’s wins vs Louisville and Memphis State were epic… similar to wins over UNC and Duke. VT is a good not great basketball program. Perhaps the lazy hires set the program back a bit ( along with the Pierre fiasco) and have kept VT from becoming more. I think our next hire and program investment will determine how serious VT is about basketball. If Franklin resurrects football it will only help VT basketball. I hope it’s a home run.

Moir was good but after 1981, VT was still a team that would lose games

There isn't much remaining online that discuss Greenberg's departure for VT
