I was at the first game in Cassell…12 years old…

Dad came home from work and told Mom his boss had given him two tickets to opening night at the new basketball arena. Dad was an engineer for the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. Grew up in Fairlawn and later moved to Radford. Mom said it was a school night but Dad said “Aw it’s a once in a lifetime thing” Mom reluctantly relented… What do I remember? Seats weren’t installed so we sat on concrete risers with chalk to indicate your seat number. Popcorn and a Coke were my big takeaways… Don’t remember who Tech played but I do remember we won. I would have those days again…

That was also my first game at VT, I was 9 years old at the time.

I was there too. Game was against BAMA, yes we won.**
