Lifetime

FWIW the much praised (and well deserved) turnaround at Louisville...

Which has been talked about here due to a big resurgence in NIL Louisville's rotation consists of 1 player who averaged double digits last year at a P5 (or P4, whatever) school The entire roster has one player who was a HS Top 100 player This is why when fans shout to "hire recruiters" they should be put in a corner. Louisville hired Kenny Payne, one of the biggest recruiting hires for any non blueblood school...and he bombed Did he bomb due to a lack of talent? Lack of NIL? No, of course not. His team last year had top transfers on it as well as 8 (EIGHT!!) former Top 100 HS players. 8x as many as their current iteration. And yes, that means they had the same number of wins as they had Top 100 players. They hired a good coach who had a plan. He brought over players from his former school who became starters in the ACC and somehow overcame being a CAA-level player to lead them to the top of the conference. Good coaching matters, good fit matters more. More often than not "recruiting hires" don't work out at places that are difficult to recruit OR places that do not have a plan for the recruits you get to campus. Anyway, next time someone mentions all that NIL money being thrown around at Louisville, make sure the proper context is they offered the right fits, not the top players.

Weren't Hepburn, Hadley, and Edwards highly sought after in the portal?
GoldCoast 03/16/25 10:43 AM ET
Hadley is the one I was referring to as the lone P5 player to avg 10+

Outbidding someone for a player doesn't mean high dollars...

My educated guesses for the cost of those cores: Louisville: $2.5M ish for

It’s not JUST NIL. It’s definitely coaching. Kelsey is a helluva coach.

It can easily be argued Young turned 8-24 into 13-19 this year.
hokieZ71 03/15/25 11:23 PM ET
It can also be argued his previous 3 teams underperformed.
GoldCoast 03/16/25 10:26 AM ET
Very fair points that don’t get discussed much. That ACC winning team was

Ah, meant previous year and missed a 2nd win (at Lou) so 2-10 overall.**

They have an AD that knows what they are doing.

hokietom87 03/16/25 06:51 AM ET
Sort of. He was interim AD.
