He's absolutely going to help, don't get me wrong. But it may not show up to the casual fan just how he is helping. I wouldn't expect any number of points from him. He is capable of scoring double digits, he is capable of scoring 2 points and still having a positive effect. This will be his first college game. And his first college game without a preseason to introduce him to the offense, defense and prep work it takes to be successful at this level. Keep expectations low, see how he performs and then go from there. The worst case is to set an unrealistic expectation, he inevitably doesn't meet it and then spend the remainder of the season as a failure of an expectation that he never should have had placed on him. For instance, MY mentioned he will come in around the under 16 timeout. That says to me he is going to play 8-10 minutes depending on how he handles it as a backup to Pedulla. If Cattoor is still out, it makes the most sense to keep Collins in a backup wing role and have Rice solely give Pedulla a break. That role would change down the road as he gets more comfortable on the floor. If Cattoor is back and healthy, then Collins may all but disappear once Rice works his way into the lineup. That's not a knock on Collins, he has a lot of development left. It's just what's best for both Collins and VT. With Cattoor and Rice both back, Camden can hopefully move to the 4 for good this season and play situationally. But the larger point is that the expectation shouldn't be for Rice to come in and hit 40% from 3, score 15 points and not turn the ball over. There's not a single box score line for him that would surprise me at this point. 0 points, 2 points, etc. And none of them matter at all in his development.
