I think it is more a result of our current culture more than anything

Having been in club and high school athletics for a long time, I see kids switch clubs on a yearly basis due to playing time or disliking a coach for not (insert any) "playing me enough", "playing me at my best position", "developing me", "winning enough trophies" or "playing favorites".

I have friend who thinks his daughter is a D1 softball player. In 7th grade, he moved her to 3 different travel softball teams in 1 season after leaving another team after her 6th grade season. All I heard was the coaches stink here, stink there, blah blah blah.

Now as a 9th grader, she is playing on the 9th grade team and isn't the superstar he wants so there are "politics" at their high school as to why his daughter isn't on the Varsity..much less the JV team.
