IU has had some crazy efficient games, VT has only had one (St. Joes)

Indiana beat Marquette by 23, Kansas st by 17, Penn st by 42, Maryland by 18, and they beat their sub-300 opponents by FORTY. Meanwhile their losses have come to teams ranked 12, 13, 15, 39, and 61 in TRank VT on the other hand barely beats sub-300s teams by 20, and everyone else they beat by single digits, often times by one basket. VT has losses to teams ranked 30, 35, 58, 64, and 69 in TRank It blows my mind how week after week you can’t seem to figure out why Net ranks are the way they are. VT struggles against all teams but wins close games, Indiana loses to great teams and blows out average ones. ** Edited by soflahokie at 1/20/2026, 3:28:44 PM

Would love to know from the NET defenders how to explain Indiana 38

Ironically #30 in RPI. **

It isn't about wins and losses. It's about efficiency.
VT ChemE 1986 01/20/26 01:53 PM ET
The same reason they're #37 in KenPom and VT is #57.
Lumbee09 01/20/26 12:53 PM ET
The actual ranking doesn't matter very much.
Chris ColemanAdmin 01/20/26 09:09 AM ET
Ok but doesn’t that punish VT opponents & reward IU
hokiepro 01/21/26 08:05 PM ET
They are way more efficient than us, if they keep losing it’ll correct
soflahokie 01/20/26 06:27 AM ET
So “efficiently” winning vs bad teams or losing vs good teams is better
hokiepro 01/20/26 02:58 PM ET
Yes, you continuing to sweat the NET does sound ridiculous.

It would be really cool if we knew how the NET was calculated.**
hoosnowahokie 01/20/26 08:15 AM ET
We do, the NET is a weighting of Team Value Index + Adjusted Net Efficiency
soflahokie 01/20/26 09:18 AM ET
Which is an educated guess. I still think it's odd they haven't
hoosnowahokie 01/20/26 01:11 PM ET
Probably so they can adjust it if teams game it, it’s way better than RPI
soflahokie 01/20/26 02:08 PM ET
Teams game the NET by not resting starters and continuing to blow out very
