The only times he has played off the ball...

Has been during foul trouble with Storm. What you might be confusing with playing off the ball is the PG giving the ball up early in the half court. MYs PGs essentially play off the ball when the ball reaches the front court. Even during those instances, Murphy guarded the bigger guard, not Pedulla.
