Another difference is that in the pros fans do get to watch a lot of

their favorite players play for their favorite team for a decade or more. Even if there is a lot of roster churn a casual fan can step away when the team sucks, come back when they are doing better and still see some familiar faces. In college even at the best of times guys rarely start for more than three years.
