Respect can be earned.......

or gifted. In the case of the ACC and NCAA tourney in recent years it has been earned as contrasted with the P2 of the B1G and the SEC. The media(CBS and ESPN) push their golden children and they perennially fall flat on their face in the tourney when it comes to tourney performance, a gift versus earned. Recent years see the ACC discounted and badmouthed, only to be there come tourney time playing at or above seed as a conference, respect earned versus gifted. The ACC is not entirely blameless as their early season performances and some OOC misses provide the opening for that media narrative. As far as your first question goes, the answer is it depends. A 2 seed making it does not necessarily reflect underseeding, however, a 3/4 or lower making it, more likely than not, does reflect underseeding. When a team advances 2 or more lines above their seed it at least raises the question of the accuracy of the seed. When you have multiple underseeded teams advancing to the final four it raises a question as to the committee performance and the accuracy/usefulness of the evaluation tools they employ. Upsets happen, that is the beauty of the tournament. However, when a single team strings together multiple upsets or a single conference fails to play to or above seed on an annual basis that raises questions as to the accuracy of the seeding and selection process. ** Edited by 2hhoop3 at 1/30/2024, 9:46:46 AM
